Body Psychotherapy

What is Body Psychotherapy?

Body Psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that works specifically with the body. The underlying assumption is that the body is an expression of our psyche, our emotions and our spirituality. Various techniques are used, but the primary focus is on connecting to our essential self with the aim to access our intrinsic health and by doing so understanding the interconnectedness of being. Body psychotherapy is about dissolving the illusion of separation – within and with our environment and thereby uncovering meaning.

The fundamental premise of body psychotherapy is that if we are in our bodies not simply have bodies, in other words if we are embodied and stay with what energetically and emotionally is emerging, we move towards a more integrated state of being, where we can experience more pleasure. If we can track how we feel in our bodies and notice what is truly happening in the moment, we can dissolve old patterns and move towards a position of more choice and joy.

Who is it for?

You might want to consider Body Psychotherapy, if you:
  • feel disconnected from your body
  • feel permanently exhausted and overwhelmed
  • lack joy and pleasure in life
  • feel stuck in your body and your relationships
  • feel numb, low in energy and general lack zest for life
  • can’t see the point in life
  • feel you are not good enough regardless of how much you are achieving and of how much you are trying
  • lack vitality
  • are afraid of intimacy and at the same time crave it
  • never quite live in the present moment, but you are stuck in the past or the future
  • carry a lot of shame and guilt to the point that it paralyses you
  • feel often inferior to other people and assume that everyone around you has their life sorted
  • have unexplained aches and pains in your body
  • can’t sleep

What to expect...

Body Psychotherapy essentially creates space for you to connect back to your body and to maybe feel if for the first time in a long while.

Since people’s needs differ body psychotherapy employs a wide range of different techniques, ranging from talking, working with imagery, fantasy, breath, movement and the arts. Body awareness exercises and meditation can also be part of the session.

Short-term Body Psychotherapy will last from 3-6 months and the deeper transformational work will more likely take anything from 2 to 5 years. Body Psychotherapy is done weekly on the same day and at the same time.
